Minar e Pakistan is also known as Yadgar e Pakistan is a national monument located in Lahore city of Pakistan. The tower was built as a memorial for the Lahore Resolution of 1940 and All India Muslim League’s call for a separate and independent homeland for Muslims, as espoused by the two-nation theory. It is built on the same site where Muhammad Ali Jinnah was seated during the event. This resolution eventually helped lead to the emergence of an independent state for Muslims in 1947.
The tower almost took 8 years to complete and opened to the public on 31st October 1968. It reflects the blend of traditional and modern architecture. The base is made up of coarse marble to symbolize the struggles done by the Muslims of movement whereas the tower is made up of fine marble reflects the ultimate success and path to prosperity. The base consist of 10 slabs that have been craved with 99 names of Allah, speeches of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, poetry of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the text of Lahore Resolution in Urdu, Bengali, Arabic, English languages along with the text of National Anthem of Pakistan in Urdu and Bengali.
The height of Minar is about 70 meters above the ground and rises about 62 meters on the base from which emanate eight flower-petals, which culminate at the top with a steel dome and a pinnacle. The tower consists of four platforms that have been constructed with different kinds of marble and stone while 162 stairs besides an elevator lead a pilgrim to the topmost platform of the monument. The platform is made up of Taxila stones, hammer-dressed stones, chiseled stones, and white marbles.
