Deosai National Park also known as the “Land of the Giants’ ‘ is the second-highest plateau in the world, located at an elevation of 4,114 meters above the sea level in the Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is located 30 kilometers from Skardu City and it takes approximately 2 to 3 hours to reach via jeep ride. The park spreads over an area of 3,000 square kilometers. The park is famous for its vast plains covered with lush green wild grass, unique flora and fauna, numerous breathtaking lakes along with its awe-inspiring scenery of snow-capped peaks. The stunning beauty of the plains attracts photographers from all around the globe who seek to capture the divine miracles through their cameras.
The Deosai National Park was established in 1993 to save endangered wildlife animals, especially the Himalayan Brown bear and its habitat. It has become the last frontiers of natural habitat for wildlife animals, creatures that once roamed the mountains freely. The Deosai Plains are also home to the red fox, ibex, the snow leopard, the Ladakh urial, golden marmot, wolf, and many residents and migratory birds.
The best time to visit the park is during summers when it is fully covered with millions of colorful flowers and butterflies. The stunning view of the Karakoram Range from the top of the 4785-meter pass is truly amazing. The most ideal spot in Deosai Plain is Sheosar Lake with its calm and peaceful surroundings. It is a heart-shaped Lake at an elevation of 4,142 meters that is surrounded by lush green meadows and colorful flowers. Sheosar Lake is among the highest lakes in the world.
Deosai National Park is also home to the two most stunning streams, Kala Pani and Bara Pani. Kala Pani is known as Kala Pani due to the black stones in the streambed. It is a famous stopping point while crossing Deosai because of its immense beauty whereas Bara Pani can be accessible from Astore in the west and Skardu on the other side. Bara para further enhances the beauty of Deosai National Park. These streams are famous camping sites for tourists.
