Pakistan is home to some of the highest road passes and almost every one of these passes offers stunning views. Driving along these passes is one of the great experiences for tourists.
The Burzil Pass is one of the ancient pass located at an elevation of 4100 meters above the sea level, lies approximately 5 kilometers between the Gilgit Baltistan region and Azad Kashmir region of Pakistan and almost 30 kilometers north of the Line of Control (LOC), which serves as the de facto border between Pakistan and India in Kashmir. Some of the major section of the pass has been closed by Pakistan (which used to run freely through undivided Kashmir) because the region is now a disputed territory and partitioned.
The pass was once part of the historic caravan route between Gilgit and Srinagar and the merchants used this ancient pass to cross. Towards the start of the twentieth century, a hut of post couriers was situated on the crest of the pass. They carried mail from India to China.
The Gilgit is approximately 367 kilometers from Srinagar by road via the Burzil Pass above the northern banks of Wular Lake and Gurez in the Azad Kashmir region. The crest of the pass is wide and covered with alpine trees during summer. The River Astore originates from the western slopes of the Burzil pass. It is the oldest pass connecting Gilgit with Sakrdu and Srinagar through Deosai Plateau
