Passu is a small beautiful village located beside the Hunza River in the Gojal valley in the Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. The village spreads over an area of 1,050 square kilometers and it was the oldest settlement in Gojal Valley. It is home to the world’s great peaks including K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum, Masherbrum, Rakaposhi along with the world’s huge glaciers like Baltoro, Batura. There are so many amazing places around the Gilgit Baltistan region to see but the unique landscape and location of Passu on Karakoram Highway gives it a distinctive edge and it is immensely famed among tourists from all around the globe.
Passu Cones also known as Passu Cathedral is the highest point in this area located at an elevation of 6,106 meters above sea level. Passu cones stand tall along with the Passu village, which is blessed with a captivating charm by nature. Because of its unique structural attributes, it has been given many names by visitors but the most famous among them are Passu cones and Passu Cathedral.
Passu glacier lies in the south part of the village that connects with the Batura glaciers along with many other glaciers. Passu glacier connects with Batura glacier through Yunz Pasture. It is a lush green field that is home to numerous shrubs and Alpine trees on its surroundings. The trek is easy and full of a panoramic view of the two glaciers and Zarth-Sar. Tourists can see ridges and rocks all around the valley. It takes five to six-hour hiking to reach the Yunz Pasture.
Tourists can reach the Paasu through two bridges, Passu Suspension Bridge and Hosseini Suspension Bridge.
The first suspension bridge comes on the way to Khurramabad on the River Hunza. The distance from Khuramabad to the main village takes an hour to access the second suspension bridge. Khuramabad connects to Zor-Abad, in Hosseini. The trekking of the area takes about five hours.
Accommodation facilities are readily available for the tourists at all the major places. All kinds of vehicles are available to approach the Shimshal Pass, Sost, Chipurson, Khunjerab, and other downtowns of Hunza and Gilgit-Baltistan.
